HOW TO ARRIVE
There are direct daily flights of Turkish Airlines from New York and Chicago to Istanbul. In addition to these Turkish Airlines also have direct scheduled flights from L.A., Houston, San Francisco, Miami, Dallas and D.C. to Istanbul. Istanbul also can be reached from many major European cities easily. As Turkish Airlines has frequent connecting flights to other cities of Turkey, we suggest our hunters to fly via Turkish Airlines as they can get the advantage of check-in all the way to the last destination.
After arriving at Istanbul Airport you will board your next domestic flight.Rifle clearance will be either at Istanbul airport or at the destination airport. Domestic flight time is around 1 ½ hour. It is up to you if you would like to book your own flights until the last destination. But we may as well book your domestic flights on request.
AREAS, ALTITUDE, METHOD
We organize our Anatolian chamois hunts around a province named Erzincan or Artvin which are located in the eastern and northern part of the country. Hunting grounds in this mountainous region is at altitude of 2000-2500 meters (6500’- 8000’)and Bezoar also can be spotted while hunting chamois.
Hunting day starts very early in the morning with breakfast followed by a 40 minute-2 hour drive to get to the area. The hunt is conducted on foot using spot & stalk method.
SEASON, WEATHER, ACCOMMODATION
The season for this hunt is from September through the end of December.Rutting time is the entire month of November. However early season hunts due to warm weather conditions are not recommended since the chamois would be very high altitude. Our success rate has been almost 100%.
Although it is impossible to predict the weather conditions since it varies from year to year, it can be around 5-15 C ( 41- 59F) during the day in November while it is cooler in December. There may be some snow fall in December and the temperature can drop down to freezing point after the middle of the month. We accommodate our hunters in the best possible hotels in the town.
Mainly 5 day-hunts are required for the Anatolian Chamois although we have a average of 2-3 days.
